Globe theatre imageThere is an excellent opportunity for a 12 month placement with a Historic Building Conservation company McCurdy & Co Ltd which specialises in structural carpentry, based on historic projects in the South of England.

The Placement will be carried out at a range of properties in Southern England predominantly including at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, Southwark, London and also at the McCurdy workshops in Berkshire. Trainee will work under the instruction of the Site Supervisor/ Carpentry Foreman or Workshop Manager on carpentry framing, erection and new works to the theatre structure. The Placement will require the Trainee to hold a basic CSCS health and safety card.

McCurdy & Co imageMcCurdy & Co. is 36 years old and specialises in structural carpentry work on historic properties, the fabrication of new timber frame structures and the creation of historic replicas throughout the UK and occasionally overseas. It is envisaged that the trainee will be assumed to be resident in the London area with travel to the workshops near Reading being required from time to time.

Heritage Lottery Fund logoThe placement is run by the National Heritage Training Group bursary scheme, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. The scheme is all about finding passionate, enthusiastic and dedicated people to be trained to work on England’s traditional buildings. There will be 30 educational bursaries offered, working on live heritage sites across England. The bursaries are being organised across the country by regional heritage coordinators.
