NHTG HLF funded courses and events - book today!!

HLF logoThe National Heritage Training Group have been awarded £779,200 funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to provide high quality, work-based training and skills development opportunities to equip people for a career in the built heritage sector.

This includes 30 bursaries for traditional building skills and also some exciting and informative courses. We have several in the diary - see below.

 

Bursary Events and Courses

 

Understanding Repair and Maintenance of Traditional (Pre 1919) Buildings Course

17th - 18th July, Eccelsall Woods, Sheffield
25th - 26th July, Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich, London
3rd - 4th August, Heritage Skills Centre, Lincoln
28th - 29th September, Fountains Abbey, North Yorkshire
 

The fee for the course is £100 which covers the cost of all materials, refreshments and certified units towards your Level 3 NVQ.The course is free of charge to Building Traditional Skills Building Resilience Building Community in England, HLF Bursary Holders. 

Of interest to crafts persons, builders and professionals –  a two day course on Repair and Maintenance of Traditional Buildings. Participants will learn about the  theory and practicalities of conserving traditional buildings from industry experts. Registration with CITB Cskills Awards for AWD053 is included in the course fee and participants will take a short test at the end of the second day. This qualification is a useful addition for those studying Heritage Skills level 3 Crafts Diplomas & CPD Certificates will also be provided.   

 

Heritage Specialist Apprenticeship Programme (SAP) and Heritage Specialist Upskilling Programme (SUP) in Stonemasonry and Wood Occupations

 

11th - 22nd September, Hereford  

NHTG SAP courseThese Heritage SAP and SUP courses are for stonemasonry, carpentry and joinery resulting in the Level 3. The courses are a combination of lectures and practical work at historic sites and can be an integral part of working towards an NVQ Level Three in Heritage Skills. Upon completion of the NVQ portfolio and assessment (within 12 months of registration) the candidate can apply for a CSCS Gold Card (increasingly necessary for Heritage contracts). Courses are run from the workshop in Clifford on the Powys/Herefordshire border near the picturesque town of Hay-on-Wye. Practical sessions will give you the opportunity to work on local historic buildings including the stunning Hay Castle.

This intensive conservation course will provide hands-on training in technical and practical skills in the repair and maintenance of an 18th century walled garden in Lichfield. You can attend both days or just day one only.
