Call for entries: Young builder of the year

The 19th Young Builder of the Year Awards celebrate the achievements of young people, who despite having to overcome a range of barriers have succeeded in training for and or gaining employment in the construction industry.   

Applications are invited from two categories:

• 14 to 18 year olds still in education or training (including apprentices)

• 18 to 24 year olds in employment or training  

Applications open on Friday 1st June 2018 and close on Tuesday 31st July 2018.  

The 20 finalists will be invited to the Awards Ceremony at the House of Commons on Wednesday 17th October 2018, when the winners will be announced.  
For 2018 there is a prize fund of £7,500 and all shortlisted finalists will receive an award.

Stone Carving - Beginners

A fantastic two day course learning the art of stone carving with expert stone carver Sebastian Rasch.

Using traditional lime and clay renders and plasters

Lime and Clay plasters have been used historically and this day provides advice to those who wish to restore their period property and demonstrate how breathable renders and plasters can be efficiently applied to new buildings.

Timber Frame Repairs

This session is divided into two illustrated talks, with the first session looking at what repair methods might be appropriate to heavy carpentry and the tools that a modern carpenter might use.
